The request by the legal team of Senate President Bukola Saraki that Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), disqualifies himself from the latter’s ongoing trial failed Thursday. Umar said in a ruling: “Chairman of the tribunal has not been charged to any court. The defendant, though, facing charges, has not recused himself from performing his duties as senate president.
“The issue of any investigation is over. The tribunal holds that the application of the accused lacks merit. It is hereby dismissed.”
The application requesting Umar to disqualify himself was filed by Ajibola Oluyede (SAN), who also accused the CCT chairman of having ‘a cloudy relationship’ with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
