A Zimbabwean researcher on African politics, Chipo Dendere, has called out Labour Party presidential candidate at the just concluded general elections, Peter Obi, over his comments on King Charles III.
Peter Obi, had via a tweet, congratulated King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their coronation, as well as praised the duo for their contributions on development and climate issues.
Peter Obi wrote, “I most heartily congratulate King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their coronation today. As one who is honoured to have personally met and discussed with you, especially on your campaigns for development and climate issues. I am confident in your desire to champion the protection of our global environment for good. I believe that your reign will foster greater peace and security in the United Kingdom, and other Commonwealth nations to which Nigeria belongs.”
However, this didn’t go down well with Dendere, who chided Peter Obi for falling to call for peace in crisis-ridden Sudan but wrote long essays about King Charles III.
Replying to Peter Obi’s tweet, she said “This statement is so disappointing to me not that my views matter but the person representing hopes of millions of young Africans didn’t put out many statements calling for peace in Sudan but here he writes this long essay.”
